Drug enforcement moved into an autonomous National Drug Enforcement Agency through a 2005 amendment. The agency took responsibility for enforcing, regulating and coordinating action against illicit drug trafficking and use, following earlier policing by a specialised unit of the police. A further amendment renamed it the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia, in 2014.[1][2][3]
