France raises the on-the-spot drug-use fine to €500

From 20 August 2026 the fixed fine for illicit use of a scheduled drug is €500, or €400 if paid within 15 days and €1,000 if the fine is increased. A court that convicts someone of that offence, or of the offence in article L3421-6, may also suspend a driving licence or a powered-boat licence for up to three years. The one-year prison sentence and the €3,750 fine remain available. Law 2026-798 was published on 19 August 2026, and the code article is in force from the next day.[1][2]
