Canada introduces a bill to replace some small-possession prosecutions with tickets

Government Bill C-38 received first reading. It proposed fine-only treatment for possession of up to 15 g of marijuana or 1 g of resin, with ticket procedures where the relevant contraventions arrangements applied; 15–30 g of marijuana could follow either a criminal or ticket route. The bill did not reach third reading or become law in that parliamentary session. Its introduction did not decriminalise possession.[1][2]
