Tightening 🇦🇹 Austria

Austria explicitly criminalises growing cannabis to obtain narcotics

The 2007 amendment, effective in January 2008, added cultivation of cannabis, opium poppy or coca for obtaining narcotics to section 27's offences. The basic penalty was up to one year in prison or 360 day-fines; conduct exclusively for personal use carried up to six months or the same fine ceiling. Section 28 separately covered cultivation to obtain quantities above the statutory threshold. The change addressed growing before production of the drug; it did not ban every cannabis plant regardless of purpose or remove the law's diversion provisions.[1]
