Other law 🇩🇿 Algeria

Algeria extends the death penalty to arson and child abduction

Law 26-13 of 12 October 2026 added capital punishment for deliberately setting fire to forests, woods or fields and for child abduction involving torture or sexual assault. It did not change the drug law, but it was published amid a government push to resume executions, after the 2025 drug law had already broadened capital drug offences. Algeria has not carried out an execution since 1993, though courts have continued to impose death sentences.[1][2][3]
