Colonial customs seize kif on Algeria's eastern border

Customs officers in colonial Algeria seized 20 kg of hashish at La Calle in 1926, 80 kg at Tebessa in 1927 and 18 kg at El Oued in April 1928, the French government told a League of Nations survey. The seizures followed a kif route from Tunisia into the Constantine department and the southern territories. By 1931 the whole of Algeria reported only 660 g seized, which the colonial administration presented as proof that its controls had worked.[1]
