# Research pass: Aden 1942 ordinance text upgrades trade-ban entry + article

Research checked on 26 October 2026. A UN Digital Library search aimed at
British Honduras surfaced a bundled E/NL.1956/93 file that turned out to be
Aden's full Dangerous Drugs Ordinance — the original 1942 text the existing
Aden entries had marked unverified. One entry upgraded, one article written.
No scores, profiles or timelines changed.

## What was verified (all sources actually read)

- UN E/NL.1956/93 (9 pp. PDF via the Digital Library nanna endpoint, read
in extracted text): Aden Colony, Revised Edition of the Laws 1955,
Chapter 41 — Dangerous Drugs Ordinance No. 9 of 1942 (in force 1 March
  1942; amended by Nos. 25/1943, 19/1944, 9/1945, 32/1945). Read: s. 2
Indian hemp definition (dried flowering/fruiting tops, ganja/bhang or
  otherwise); s. 3(n) hemp schedule (resin/charas, resin-base products,
  extracts/tinctures); s. 4 cultivation ban (hemp + poppy, Governor's
  written scientific permission excepted); s. 5 manufacture/buy/sell/
  possess ban + seizure; ss. 6, 10 import/export certificates; ss. 8–9,
  11 opium/transhipment machinery; s. 13 prosecution presumption; s. 14
  penalty (1 year / 1,500 shillings); s. 15 rule-making.
- Entry `yemen-aden-cannabis-trade-ban-1942` rewritten: retitled (imports
and sales → growing, trade and possession), per-sentence [@1] (1952
report, pre-existing source) + [@2] (new ordinance source), unscored note
updated (original ordinance now verified; Aden-only scope kept, national
  estimate untouched).
- New `articles/yemen-aden-cannabis-trade-ban-1942.md` (~330w body,
4 sections, both sources). One mid-draft cut: a 1960-replacement clause
was removed because the 1960 gazette was not re-read this pass (it stands
  cited on the 1961 entry).

Claim boundaries: the upgrade stays unscored — Aden Colony only, northern
regime unknown, national `ye-first-restriction-estimate` preserved. "First"
is not asserted for Aden; the text is the earliest documented.

## Dead ends and parks recorded, not forced

- The E/NL.1956/93 file is Aden, not British Honduras — the search snippet's
cultivation sentence was Aden s. 4. British Honduras 1928 (No. 22 of 1928)
still rests on E/NL.1949/25 (extension order only): the E/NL.1949/16-17
lead was pulled and proved procedural only (1947 evidence-certificate
section 15A using Jamaica's chemist; 1948 repeal of its costs subsection),
confirming the 1928 ordinance as the live principal law but adding no
cannabis text. Belize entry left as-is.
- Gibraltar principal ordinance year still unknown (1951–54 filings are
extension orders/rules only). Macao pre-1962 cannabis coverage still
  unverified (1946 Decree 933 was opium abolition per secondary snippet;
1947/1949/1957 decrees' contents unknown). Portugal Decree 12.210/1926
identified by number but text unreachable (DRE JS + historic-file URL
patterns failed). Montserrat needs `ms` country scaffolding before any
entry. Yugoslav 1929 code text and Curaçao 1929 ordinance text still
  unfound.

## Verification and files

- `node -e` YAML load of changes.yaml clean before build.
- `npm run build`, `npm run history:test`, `npm run answers:test` green;
  rendered `/history/yemen-aden-cannabis-trade-ban-1942/` citation marks
  checked.
- Commit limited to own work: the Aden 1942 hunk in changes.yaml, the new
article, this note, via pathspec. Foreign staged/worktree files excluded
  and preserved.
