Vanuatu MPs back financial checks for licensed cannabis businesses

Vanuatu’s national broadcaster reported parliamentary support for changes aimed at overcoming the bank-account and international-transfer barriers facing licensed cannabis and hemp businesses.[1] The published bill proposed financial-intelligence checks on applicants’ money and key people, a coordinator’s office and a system of penalty notices.[2] Agriculture Minister Ian Wilson said licences issued in 2023 had been held up by banking problems; opposition MPs supported the changes while stressing security.[1]
