A beylical decree of 3 October 1884 laid down prohibitions and regulations on Indian hemp and takrouri, or kif. The 1953 decree that ended legal sales cites it, together with a decree of 1 August 1939 on toxic substances, as the earlier law; its text was not read.[1]
