Myanmar police raid an American's hemp plantation

Police raided a 20-acre plantation on an industrial estate in Ngunzun township, Mandalay region, and arrested the American entrepreneur John Frederic Todoroki and two Myanmar employees. Six days later the region's chief minister said his government had allowed the firm to grow fibre plants for one year. Todoroki was released on medical bail in July 2019 and reportedly left the country. On 10 March 2020 the Myingyan District Court sentenced Shein Latt, a supervisor who had installed the irrigation, to 20 years for growing prohibited cannabis plants; the case against the translator was dismissed.[1]
