From the beginning of 2024 the cannabis regulator authorised the use of beldiya, the local variety, under a protocol drawn up with the food safety office and following first results of a study with the national agronomic research institute. By August it had granted 106 authorisations covering 1,916 hectares to cooperatives of 1,816 farmers. The first legal plantings in 2023 had used imported seed.[1][2]
