Haiti passes its drug trafficking law

The law on the control and repression of illicit drug trafficking passed the Senate on 19 June 2001 and the Chamber of Deputies on 7 August 2001, and was promulgated on 24 September 2001. It bans growing cannabis (Article 10) and sets up to 30 years for offering, selling or holding drugs for supply (Article 49). Growing, buying or holding a small amount for personal use carries up to six months and a fine, and the court may order treatment instead or in addition (Article 63).[1]
