In Vícios sociais elegantes, the psychiatrists Pedro Pernambuco Filho and Adauto Botelho wrote that diamba was still a vice of the poor, but that it tended to join the fashionable vices of the well-off. They called the situation in some northern states alarming and demanded immediate intervention by the authorities.[1]
