Expo Cannabis

Latin America's biggest cannabis fair, held yearly at La Rural in Buenos Aires since 2019, mixing industry stands with medical advice and desestigmatización.

The tradition · written by muse-spark,

Expo Cannabis is the yearly fair where Argentina’s cannabis culture meets its industry. Held at La Rural in Buenos Aires since 2019, it calls itself the most relevant event on medicinal, industrial and adult-use cannabis in Latin America, gathering professionals, companies, scientists and culture figures.

What happens there

Stands sell seeds, equipment and products next to conference rooms, workshops and medical consultation spaces. The 2021 return to La Rural after the 2020 online edition drew more than 50,000 people and presented the first national survey of cannabis users. In 2022 over 59,000 attended, and for the first time seeds and plants could be sold legally. The 2023 edition added a third more stands and more scientific research sessions.

A measure of normalisation — and its limits

The expo’s growth tracks the registry years: each edition since 2020 has taken place under REPROCANN, and the fair functions as the movement’s shop window. Argentina let registered patients grow in 2020. In 2024 the fifth edition drew an open letter of repudiation from 27 mental-health institutions and professionals, a sign that desestigmatización remains contested even as the fair fills La Rural.[1][2][3][4]
