Panama’s courts had a local name for the plant before they had a modern drug law. The 1935 Judicial Register calls cannabis “commonly known locally as Canyac or Kan Jac” — the only recorded Panamanian Spanish name for it. Panama calls cannabis Canyac in 1935.[1]
