Timor-Leste arrests nine in a Dili drug operation involving cannabis

Police and intelligence officers arrested nine suspects in Dili on 11–12 August; TATOLI reported seizures including suspected cannabis and methamphetamine.[1] The district court imposed identity-and-residence declarations and periodic reporting, a decision later challenged publicly by a student movement.[2] Justice Minister Tiago Amaral Sarmento also called for stronger penalties and criticised the prosecution’s handling of the case.[3]
