Chad's new code allows health confinement after a prison sentence

Chad's new Penal Code allowed courts to confine a person with drug dependence in a special health institution for up to two years after conviction for an offence punishable by at least two years in prison. Confinement began when the principal prison sentence ended or was suspended; a court could shorten it after medical advice that release no longer threatened public order. The code took effect on 1 August 2017, following the earlier pharmacy law's power to order drug users into treatment.[1]
